How do we engage boys in transformative learning experiences? That is the question every teacher at Scots asks every day as we seek to bring out the best in our boys and form them into fine young men. Our Glengarry Residential Program in Year 9 is already known around the world as a transformative experience, a 'rite of passage' for boys moving towards manhood. In line with our Strategic Intent 2016-2025 and as an expression of our Brave Hearts, Bold Minds education philosophy, the College seeks to enrich and expand the immersive, reflective experience of Glengarry across the curriculum.
To help us create rigorous, reflection-rich learning designs connected to real-world practices and places, the Research Centre has been working with a range of staff in research clusters and working groups to develop its own model of Experiential Education.

- Mr Mathew Pfeiffer (Counselling Team), undertaking his PhD at the Institute for Positive Psychology, Australian Catholic University, on 'Enhancing Positive Psychological Outcomes in Adolescence: The Effects of Outdoor Adventure Education'
- Mr Reece Condon (Glengarry Outdoor Instructor), commencing his PhD at the University of Wollongong, considering the contribution of outdoor education to flourishing outcomes
- Mr Jeffrey Mann (Coordinator of Student Experience), is undertaking his PhD at the Western Sydney University, exploring the topic of 'Engaging and Equipping High School Boys and Girls for the Future'. One of the strategies proposed in his study is through experiential learning.
