Dr Rob Loe, former teacher, senior leader and leading academic in the measurement and management of human relationships as CEO of the Relationships Foundation, spoke lucidly about why relationships matter and why we don’t understand them as well as we should. In an age obsessed with social networks, he called for schools and families to invest in ‘relational networks’. ‘Relationships are not about how well you like people, but how well you know them,’ and the foundation for flourishing individuals, communities and nations.​

Professor Yong Zhao is a Foundation Distinguished Professor in the School of Education at the University of Kansas. He is also a professorial fellow at the Mitchell Institute for Health and Education Policy, Victoria University in Australia as well as a Global Chair at the University of Bath, UK. In this video, he sits down with Dr Ian Lambert, the Principal of The Scots College, for a Question and Answer session with various members of the College. They discuss issues such as engaging students as change partners, cross-cultural fluency, differences in management and leadership, advancing collective interest and many other fascinating topics.

The Principal of The Scots College, Dr Ian PM Lambert, reflects on his research journey in English literature and Christian schooling, sharing the importance of curiosity, extension and investigation. After completing a BA in Literature, Modern History and Sociology at Griffith University with a teaching diploma Dr Lambert later attended the University of London where he completed his Master of Arts degree in 20th Century Literature. He then undertook his PhD at Cambridge University in the area of Philosophy of Education. His current research focus is transformational leadership in boys' schools.

Dr Ron Ritchhart is a Senior Research Associate with Project Zero at Harvard Graduate School of Education and the Principal Investigator on the Cultures of Thinking Project. He has been working with teachers at The Scots College over several years and in this interview, while visiting the Prep campus, discusses some of his experiences and insights into helping teachers and parents create communities where thinking is visible, valued and active. Dr Sarah Zitner, formerly a lecturer in art theory and practice at the University of New South Wales and now a visual arts teacher at The Scots College, reflects on her own journey to bring together academic and artistic worlds, as well as recent experimentation with collaborative teaching practice in visual arts classrooms.

Year 3 Coordinator Mr Stuart Pearson shares the fruits of his action research project on Boys as Global Citizens, conducted across 2015-16 with the International Boys' Schools Coalition. Mr Pearson's report was identified as one of the best 8 papers given at the 2016 Annual Conference, to be published by the IBSC at theibsc.org. Read more here.

Mr Cameron Atkinson and Mrs Amanda Lazar from the English Department at The Scots College share the findings of their recent research into cultivating boldness and creativity in the classroom.

Adopting a broad definition of creativity that extends beyond 'creative tasks', they discuss the value of student-led activities within a classroom environment with the freedom to take risks and make mistakes.

Their research project was part of the Masters of Education (Educational Management and Leadership) program developed by The Scots College and The University of Sydney.
